Brothers Maurice and Joseph are boys who are no strangers to mischief, and since they live in Paris, they have more than enough opportunities for their boyish adventures. Especially since one is ten and the other twelve years old. Unfortunately, a harsh fate intervenes in their childhood games and joys. One day their mother has to sew yellow stars on their coats. France is occupied by the German army and the Nazi administration is getting tougher. The Jews in Paris are already running for their lives, so Daddy decides that the boys must flee to the unoccupied zone in the south of France, where hopefully they will all meet again. And since Maurice and Joseph must leave their threatened home immediately and as inconspicuously as possible, they have no travel documents and take only a minimum of money and food. Ahead of them are a long journey by night train, unscrupulous German patrols, a dangerous crossing of the Green Line and a journey over high mountain ranges. All they can rely on is their own strength, cleverness, bravery and instinct. Little do they know that it will be three more years before the war is over. Fortunately, the little heroes manage to retain their childhood and find time for little boy adventures in the midst of it all.
