A rare antique that belonged to the Tsarist Romanov family disappears from Moscow. A Secret Service agent retrieves it, but is mortally wounded by his pursuers. Thanks to an auction, James Bond (Roger Moore) immediately recognizes who wants it back at any cost. He gets caught up in a game where, besides the diamonds, there's a much more dangerous thing at stake. Enter the mad General Orlov (Steven Berkoff). He wants to attack Germany, but his superiors are against it. But that doesn't mean Orlov will give in. Bond could get the information he needs in the inaccessible mansion of the woman with the octopus tattoo (Maud Adams). But this woman is as beautiful as she is dangerous.
