Benjamin Mee (Matt Damon) is a Los Angeles newspaper columnist and occasional adventure fiction writer who, as a single father, faces the challenges of raising two children. Believing that a fresh start and a new beginning will help restore a sense of family togetherness, Mee decides to quit his job and buy an old country house with a huge lot and one special bonus - the Rosemore Zoo, home to dozens of animals cared for by keeper Kelly Foster (Scarlett Johansson) and her dedicated team. With absolutely zero experience, limited time and minimal finances, Mee, with the support of her family and the local gang, embarks on the difficult journey to reopen the zoo. Now Benjamin is no longer writing about an adventure story, now one such adventure is alive... and it's taking place right in his backyard.
