After six years in jail Maurice Faugel is finally released, but a devastating news is waiting for him; his wife was murdered. Maurice heads to see a former friend of his, Gilbert as he is assessing the value of jewels that were recently stolen. But during a dispute Faugel shoots Gilbert down and runs with the loot. The following day, Maurice starts planning new robberies and he requests the help of Silien, one of his closest friends, to provide the tools. But Silien is feared among gangsters as he is supected to be a "doulos", in other words, an informer for the police. It turns out that Silien is indeed playing an ambiguous and dangerous game, between informing the police of Maurices robbery and saving him before he gets caught. Later on, as Maurice will be arrested a second time Silien even makes up a story to get him out of jail (while lying to him on the reasons he got arrested again).
