Lou Bloom (Jake Gyllenhaal) is a desperate and morally ambiguous character who becomes a freelance crime journalist in Los Angeles.

As he begins to pursue stories of violent crimes and accidents, Lou becomes more and more obsessed with capturing the perfect footage that he can sell to the highest bidder. He starts to blur the lines between journalism and crime, sometimes even getting involved in the crimes he is reporting on to get better footage.

As his success grows, Lou becomes increasingly ruthless and begins to manipulate the people around him to achieve his goals. His actions draw the attention of Nina (Rene Russo), a TV news producer who is willing to pay top dollar for his footage.

As Lou's methods become more extreme, he becomes entangled in a dangerous web of deceit and violence. The movie is a dark and thrilling exploration of the blurred lines between journalism, crime, and entertainment.
