Andy Dufresne, a young banker is incarcerated in the Shawshank State Penitentiary for the murder of his wife and her lover, despite continuously clamming his innocence. He is beaten up and raped regularly by a group of inmates, until he hears one of the guardians complaining over issues of tax on his inheritance. Andy becomes the financial councillor of the prison's guards, which ensures him safety. Andy will have many encounters in the penitentiary. He will create a special bound with Red, a black inmate sentenced to life for smuggling. The two seem to have a very different visions of what hope represents.
