Dan Foreman (Dennis Quaid) has it all--a happy marriage, two beautiful daughters, and a great job as advertising executive of an important sports magazine. But when his magazine is bought out by a new international agency, Globecom, Dan is demoted and must work under his new boss, Carter (Topher Grace) who is half his age.

The two are very different both in their personal lives and in the workplace. Dan is old-school and big on forming client relationships, while Carter focuses on “synergy” and linking the business to other Globecom industries. Similarly, Dan’s wife is expecting their third child while his two teenage daughters prepare for college, and Carter’s wife has just ended their marriage after less than a year.

Lonely and lost, Carter invites himself to dinner at Dan’s house and immediately forms a connection with his oldest daughter Alex (Scarlett Johansson). They begin seeing each other behind Dan’s back knowing Dan won’t approve of the relationship.

With the magazine and both Carter and Dan’s jobs in jeopardy, the two must overcome their personal differences in order to save their careers.
