Tom Ripley occasionally plays the piano and now and then helps out in the toilets of a fancy restaurant. Once he puts on a jacket with the Princeton University logo on it, his life changes forever. One of the students is a wealthy businessman whose son Dickie, also a student at the renowned university, has been living happily for some time in Italy on his father's dime. The trusting gentleman sends Tom to Italy to persuade his son to return to the States. Tom, however, likes life and, among other things, Dickie's girlfriend so much that he is capable of anything...
